How did you get started in the pest management industry?

I started in the pest management industry at a very young age. My brother and I joke that we used to work for happy meals coming into the office to help file and shred paper when we were younger with our Dad. I started working part time in junior high school working on weekends and summers. I loved riding along with technicians as well as helping out in the warehouse. In high school and college I would work summers doing termite work. When I was in college I thought of doing something else. I really wanted to work in corporate farming and majored in Agriculture Economics. I felt the strong pull to get back into the industry after working on a farm while I was at school. I ended up changing my focus back to the industry and started working as a lab assistant with bed bugs in Dr. Potter’s Lab at the University of Kentucky. When I graduated College I started out as a full time technician back with the family company and moved up to be a sales person, then branch manager and now the sales and marketing manager.

Tell us your most memorable moment so far in your career in the pest management industry.

My most memorable moment in the pest management industry is a tough question. There have been many memorable moments. Between the great people I get to work with and get to meet every day. One of the best parts of the job is being able to see something new every day and seeing the ins and outs of commercial facilities that people typically don’t get to see. One of the most interesting jobs when I was a technician a bar signed up as a new customer in the older part of downtown. When I walked into the basement there were rats running around. I set traps and went back out to the van and I had already caught a hand full of them. I came back the next day and I had caught 13 in one night. Needless to say I pulled many more out of there. I find those jobs really fun being able to fix a problem for a customer and finding the root of the problem.

What is the guiding principal behind your success with Scherzinger?

The guiding principal behind my success at Scherzinger I think in large part is our motto that is We Strive: To be a good company to buy from, sell to, work for and improve and support the community.

Why did your company choose to earn the QualityPro certification?

Our company chose to earn the QualityPro certification from the beginning of the certification program because we see the value in the certification setting us apart from other companies. It shows that we hold ourselves to a higher standard. QualityPro is a creditable certification as well since it is through the NPMA and they have standards you have to meet and the companies get audited.

Overall, what do you think the most valuable aspect of QualityPro is to your company?

The most valuable aspect of QualityPro to our company is standing out and being able to differentiate ourselves. QualityPro started out as just a certification process but it has grown to so much more especially recently with the addition of the training and resources that is now available at qualityprotools.org.
