SHS Pest Control has been QualityPro Certified since 2010.

How did you get started in the pest management industry?

My husband Ernie, who founded SHS Pest Control Corp. in 1980, was a building contractor and thought the pest control industry and the building industry complimented each other. I got involved in 1983 to manage the business.

What is the guiding principal behind your success with your organization?

If I had to pick just one guiding principle (because there are many) I would say professionalism. We greatly appreciate NPMA, NEPMA and QualityPro for the technical and business training, business contacts, opportunities and support. These organizations have helped to guide us to success through professionalism.

In your opinion, what makes the pest management industry different from other industries?

The pest control industry has more opportunities for growth without the enormous initial capital layout. Also the pest control industry has many opportunities for expansion throughout the United States as the consumers’ needs change.

Why did your company choose to earn the QualityPro certification?<h2?>

It is a way for us as a company and us as an employer to show our clients and employees we want to be the best pest management company we can be.

Overall, what do you think the most valuable aspect of QualityPro is to your company?

Quality Pro certification raises the level of professionalism within our company. It also makes a statement about us as a business which is dedicated to the pest management industry and wants to achieve excellence.

What is your most memorable moment so far in your career in the pest management industry?

For me they are all memorable. If I can solve a tough pest management problem, help a client, see an employee grow and succeed and feel really good about the direction my business is going... It is memorable every day for me.
