Abell Pest Control
Abell Pest Control has been QualityPro accredited since 2009.
How did you get started in the pest management industry?
I received my Technical Diploma in Environmental Pest Management from Sir Sanford Fleming College and started as a service technician over 20 years ago. I’ve worked in the industry ever since and now have the privilege of supporting our service programs as the Quality Assurance Manager for Abell Pest Control. Continual learning is essential in this industry so apart from my Structural and Fumigation Exterminator licenses, I’m also ACE-I certified. I’ve been certified also through NPMA GreenPro, NPMA Food Safety and GFTC. My QualityPro certifications have been a great part of this on-going quest for knowledge and training. The QualityPro training program has been great for all Abell team members through the years.
What is the guiding principal behind your success with your organization?
The success of our organization is deeply dependent on the success of our employee’s. Abell is very focused on continual on-going training and improvement for all of our PMP’s in the field and it is this commitment from Abell that allows all of us to succeed.
In your opinion, what makes the pest management industry different from other industries?
A PMP faces such a broad variety of issues and customer needs. We are servicing food processing facilities, farms, logistics companies, apartment buildings and people’s homes. Each customer has different needs and requires different pest prevention techniques. There’s something new happening every day.
Why did your company choose to earn the QualityPro certification?
A Quality service is what we expect, whether it is from your pest control provider or buying a cup of coffee. We strive to continuously improve our service delivery to meet our clients expectations. QualityPro offered a strong set of guiding principles to help us continue to lead in the pest management industry.
Overall, what do you think the most valuable aspect of QualityPro is to your company?
Abell was one of the pioneers in Canada to achieve QualityPro certification. Since that time, we have been able to demonstrate our commitment to providing the highest quality services through QualityPro certification.
What’s your forecast for the industry in the next 5 years?
The increased focus on food safety, partnered with the increase in social media, is creating growth in the pest control industry.
Tell us your most memorable moment so far in your career in the pest management industry.
Very early on in my pest management career, I found myself as the PMP at a large food processing facility with challenging pest issues. With the many different departments, staff and challenging obstacles, working together as a team enabled us to solve many chronic pest issues. This really demonstrated to me the importance of having a great team in place and set the ground work for the many other success and challenges that would come.
